LeRoy Neiman makes tasty deal with NYC steakhouse

Nation's Restaurant News, Dec 23, 2002

NEW YORK -- In this week's installment of "Culinary Choices of the Rich and Famous," we feature pop-art painter LeRoy Neiman, who claims "I haven't paid for a meal or a cigar in 30 years."

According to a column in the New York Post by Gersh Kuntzman, Neiman told the writer that his art hangs in Gallagher's Steak House as part of a deal he made with the restaurant.

Kuntzman recently reported that 10 of Neiman's most famous prints, including those of Joe Namath and Secretariat, were hung near Gallagher's bar. When Kuntzman asked the artist how that came to be, Neiman was quoted as saying, "The agreement was that they could have the prints as long as I eat complimentary -- with beverages -- and they are living up to that arrangement."
