Calavo presents 'secret ingredient' challenge to chefs

SANTA ANA, CALIF. -- Calavo Growers of California is presenting a recipe contest called The Calavo Secret Ingredient Challenge for chefs and student chefs in the foodservice industry. Participants are invited to submit new recipes in the following menu categories: appetizers, soups, salads; side dishes or pizza; or any daypart entree. Each recipe must contain at least two tablespoons of any Calavo foodservice guacamole product or frozen halves.

Three Challenge winners -- one from each menu category -- will win $3,000 in prize money, and one of them will be selected as the grand-prize winner. The grand-prize winner will receive a trip to the National Restaurant Show in Chicago and have his or her recipe featured in a future Calavo advertisement in Nation's Restaurant News.

Calavo is one of the leading manufacturers of avocado products and guacamole.
