DC restaurant offers cooking camp

Nation's Restaurant News, Feb 28, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Ristorante Tosca here will offer a Kid's Culinary Camp for the second summer in a row, the restaurant said.

Chef-owner Cesare Lanfranconi will offer eight two-day culinary sessions for kids on weekends from June through September. The sessions will offer lessons on ingredient selection, food safety, basic cooking techniques and dining etiquette.

The lesson on ingredient selection will include a trip to a local farmer's market. Cooking will include learning how to make gnocchi and pizza. Both four-hour sessions end with the consumption of the meal prepared that day.

The camp was so popular last year that parents are sending pictures of their kids dressed in chef whites in hopes that it will help them get accepted, according to Lanfranconi.

He charges $80 per child. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
