KFC rolling out larger fried breast meat portions

Nation's Restaurant News, May 2, 1994

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- KFC is beefing up its fried-chicken line by reformulating its longstanding nine-piece cut into an eight-piece cut.

The PepsiCo-owned chain will begin offering breast meat cut into two portions; previously the breast had been portioned in three parts. Touted as being a 33-percent larger serving size, the new cut was developed to "provide more value to our customers," said a KFC spokesman.

Several competitors, such as Hardee's, had adopted the eight-piece cut earlier.

The new cut applies to the chain's fried-chicken line. Rotisserie products are sold in either whole-, half- or quarter-portion sizes. The chain will begin national advertising for the new cut May 2.
