Hog Rock stokes barbecue feud in North Carolina

Nation's Restaurant News, May 27, 1991 by Jack Hayes

If the furniture markets ran all year instead of only those two months, Burleson's 52-seat operation would gross $3 million instead of $1.4 million, according to local estimates. Kepley's check average is $4, and its chopped-pork sandwich is $1.70. Henry James Bar-B-Que, a multiunit local competitor, menus the same sandwich at $1.75.

"We sell more barbecue in one week today than we did in all of 1961 when I bought Kepley's," said Burleson, who opened a catering site near the airport in 1974 to handle business parties during the markets.
