Levy and Spielberg launch Dive!

Nation's Restaurant News, May 30, 1994

LOS ANGELES -- Mission Control, a partnership of producer-director Steven Spielberg, Walt Disney Studios president Jeffrey Katzenberg and Chicago's Levy Restaurants, has launched its $7.5 million Dive! submarine-theme chain prototype, which boasts fancy sub sandwiches and special-effects simulations of undersea adventures.

Resembling a gigantic yellow submarine -- one with valet parking and a wood-burning oven -- the 300-seat, 11,000-square-foot restaurant at the Century City Shopping Center tallied 1,000 dinner covers between 5 p.m. and midnight on its first Saturday. Service has since expanded to include lunch.

Mission Control plans to open its second Dive! on the Las Vegas Strip next March, followed by branches in New York, Chicago, Washington, San Francisco and four other cities by 1996.
