Big Apple bouncing back, says NYSRA

Nation's Restaurant News, June 15, 1992

NEW YORK - The New York State Restaurant Association notes that restaurants sales in the Big Apple are beginning to rebound following a particularly severe two-year slump.

"Many of our members have registered higher sales through the first quarter of 1992 than in either 1991 or 1990," said Fred Sampson, president of the NYSRA.

The increase in sales parallels a national trend, the association says. The U.S. Census Bureau recently reported a 7-percent hike in eating and drinking place sales for the first quarter of 1992, compared with a 2-percent rise for the same time last year.

"New York restaurants are witnessing a modest upturn along the same lines, and it has all the earmarks of a slow but full-scale comeback," Sampson said.
