Southwest posts profit jump for 2nd q

DALLAS -- Southwest Cafes made $77,000 in net income in the second quarter ended Nov. 12, a 35-percent gain, on a 5-percent rise in revenues, to $19.7 million.

The company said low food costs, stable labor expenses and increasing franchisee fees helped earnings.

For the 24 weeks of the period, net income jumped 45 percent, to $594,000, on a 4-percent increase in revenues, to $41.1 million.
