Beck, Viacom settle Blockbuster shareholder suit

Nation's Restaurant News, Jan 8, 1996

NEW YORK -- Scott Beck, chief executive and co-chairman of Boston Chicken Inc., and Viacom Inc. settled a lawsuit filed by a Blockbuster video store investor for undisclosed terms.

Last year a Dallas judge ordered Viacom, which purchased Blockbuster in 1994, and Beck, a former vice chairman of Blockbuster, to pay Charles Howell $123.5 million after the Texas man said he was defrauded during the early expansion of the Blockbuster video-rental store concept.

Beck and Viacom appealed the decision but settled before appeal arguments began
