Aurora kills restaurant sales tax

Nation's Restaurant News, August 30, 1993

AURORA, Colo. -- The City Council here in early August voted against higher sales tax on restaurants after giving preliminary approval to the measure in July.

The council voted 8-2 to eliminate the additional restaurant tax, which would have been 0.25 percent higher than the sales tax on other goods sold in the city.

Aurora restaurateurs and the Colorado Restaurant Association had said the higher restaurant tax was discriminatory and based on a fallacy that eating out is a luxury.
