WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Terry L. Tucker, president of Maple Leaf Farms, recently was honored with an honorary doctorate of agriculture from Purdue University.

Tucker was awarded the degree in recognition of his many contributions to the agricultural industry as a distinguished alumnus of Purdue University. He graduated from the school with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics in 1963.

Tucker started working for Maple Leaf Farms soon after graduation, learning the business thoroughly while holding various posts in the company. He became president and chairman of the board in 1974.

Tucker serves as a board member and officer for the Indiana State Poultry Association and is a board member of Lakeland Financial Corp.

During his tenure as president, Maple Leaf Farms has grown from a $3.5 million business into the leading duckling producer in the nation, supplying the foodservice and retail industries with more than 12 million ducklings annually and generating more than $80 million in sales.
