LJS opens Cal-Poly kiosk

Nation's Restaurant News, Sept 5, 1994

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Long John Silver's has opened its first nontraditional site on the West Coast at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.

The storefront unit is in the university's Central Dining Complex. It is the second campus unit the company has opened in its quest to expand this niche. LJS is working with several contract foodservice companies and university-operated foodservice divisions to identify future locations.

"We think that today's college students look for branded food names that they recognize from home, like Long John Silver's," said John Ramsay, vice president of franchise development. Students know our food will taste the same at Cal-Poly as it does in their home towns."
