San Antonio eyes convention center bids

SAN ANTONIO -- The city is considering bids by three contractors to operate foodservice at the San Antonio Convention Center.

The three companies are The RK Group, which holds the current contract, Hart's Food Service, and Culinaire International. RK and Hart's are local contractors, and Culinaire is based in Dallas.

All three have allied with minority-owned joint-venture partners, which was a condition of the city's bid specifications. They will make presentations this month to a selection committee, and the contract will be awarded in October.

For the last fiscal year, catering revenue at the convention center was nearly $6 million. The RK Group has held the convention center contract since 1972.
