Patel brings Balducci's to Beverly Hills

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Charles Patel, the San Francisco-area soft-drink bottler who bought Magic Pan in the mid-'80s and developed such conversion concepts as Frogg Lane and Milano's Italian Kitchen, has opened his third Balducci's Trattoria here, on North Beverly Drive.

Balducci's encourages family-style sharing. and features large platters of such dishes as sauteed clams and mussels marinara, Caesar salad, chicken Marsala, lamb shank, mixed seafood with spaghetti, various pizzas, mushroom tortelloni with porcini sauce and 14 or 22-ounce T-bone steaks with peppers, mushrooms and onions. Appetizers and salads are $7.95-$11.95; entries are $9.95-$23.95. Seven vegetable side dishes are $3.95 each.

Other Southern California branches of Balducci's are in Sherman Oaks and La Jolla.
