Canteen Corp. caters BMW reception

Nation's Restaurant News, Feb 1, 1993

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Canteen, a division of TW Services, catered the ground-breaking of the first automobile plant in the United States by BMW, the German luxury automobile manufacturer.

The ceremony was attended by more than 1,200 dignitaries, public officials, guests and members of the news media.

The reception, following the official ground-breaking ceremony, featured a variety of fare, including salmon mousse, bacon-wrapped dates, and scallops and marinated shrimps in snow pea pods.

Fourteen-foot-high floral table centerpieces were surrounded by displays of exotic fruits and dipping sauces, wheels of imported cheeses with fresh-baked breads and a variety of finger foods and crudites.

Canteen also provided four hospitality tents for the 400 volunteers on site to assist in the event.

Canteen catered BMW's formal announcement party at the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport on June 23 when the German-owned company first made public its decision to build the plant in Spartanburg.

Canteen has managed the food and dining services at the airport since 1989.
