CPK lauded for unbiased hiring

Nation's Restaurant News, Feb 7, 1994

BOSTON -- California Pizza Kitchen, the Los Angeles-based chain whose majority owner is PepsiCo Inc., said the Massachusetts state Commission Against Discrimination has cited the 4-month-old Prudential Center CPK unit for its unbiased hiring practices.

The commission made the award to management of the Boston restaurant Jan. 19, following undercover visits by two women agents, age 58 and 29, who posed as job applicants.

Both were called back repeatedly, offered positions and treated identically, the company said it was later told by the commission.

Seventy Massachusetts companies were similarly investigated, CPK said.
