Provide back-up firearms and duty gear - Lethal Force

Shooting Industry, Nov, 2003

At the outer edge of Chicago, Mitch Shore's Shore Galleries does a lion's share of its business with local police. A broad selection of optional Chicago Police Department duty guns are available. The department's officers buy their own double-action-only Berettas, SIGs, S & Ws or Ruger 9mms and .45 autos.

There is also a huge number of top-quality backup and off-duty revolvers and semi-autos in stock. Business is brisk. Shore Galleries is a dedicated police equipment store as well as a regular gun shop. However, many other gun shops outside Chicago also do a good deal of business in off duty/backup weapons.

In New York City, though cops buy their own duty weapons, they buy them through the department at a great saving. Nonetheless, John Jovino's Gun Shop in Manhattan still gets a lot of cops buying off-duty and backup handguns the city doesn't offer.

Top-quality concealment holsters sell surprisingly well to gun-wise plainclothesmen and off-duty cops. It's amazing how many police equipment stores stock only low-and medium-line concealment rigs. It's again, the low-bid mentality.

If you offer top-quality gear, you might be surprised how many will be bought by detectives and other cops with concealment needs that include all-day comfort, discretion and accessibility.
