Camouflage—it's an everywhere fashion statement - Outdoor Marketplace

Shooting Industry, Nov, 2003 by Russ Thurman

Camouflage is everywhere these days--even in the outdoors. Camouflage is a modern fashion phenomenon. It has grown far beyond its original purpose of giving hunters an edge over wary animals. Camouflage is now a mainstay in the modern world of fashion.

On any street in America, you see camouflage worn by everyday citizens. And these are not just your good ol'boys--they were ahead of this fashion thing long ago. No, we're talking about middle-aged, well-dressed men and women wearing clothing that, at the least, has camouflage accents.

Then there are the teenagers. They've seen the images of U.S. troops in camo uniforms. While they may not be flocking to military recruiting offices, they love camouflage. Jackets, pants, hats, backpacks, even camo purses, are popular with young people who know what's in vogue. It gives them style and a touch of toughness without the sweat.

Yes, camo is everywhere.

Meeting the needs of the fashion craze is the ever-inventive camouflage industry. They make or, in most cases, license their camo patterns for every product made. Overstatement? Think of one thing that doesn't come in camo. Nope, camo toilet paper has been around a long time. Can't do it, can you? And the camo industry is just getting started.
