Shooting Industry, Feb, 2000

"Winchester's In The Clothing Business. Saks Fifth Avenue Couldn't Care Less."

With this catchy advertising statement, Winchester announced the introduction of a line of clothing. A formal announcement indicated that Browning has been licensed by Olin Corp., owner of the Winchester trademarks, to market the Winchester outdoor clothing line.

The line will feature a mid-priced tier of hunting and shooting designs as well as lifestyle shirts, pants and outerwear, according to Rod Hyde, vice president of Browning's apparel and footwear division.

"The price points will complement Browning's own upscale clothing and offer the dealer a comprehensive range of hunting and rugged outdoor apparel to achieve maximum profit from his clothing clientele," Hyde said.

According to Browning, feature-loaded designs are emphasized for waterfowl, upland, rifle and archery hunters. Traditional canvas, denim and hunting's advanced silent, waterproof fleece and Cordura are used in other shells of jackets, parkas, pants and bibs.

The Winchester clothing line will he sold by the same rep groups now representing Browning products and Winchester firearms.
