Companies challenge you to step outside

Shooting Industry, June, 2007

Shooters representing companies throughout the industry are challenging other employees, from CEOs to shipping clerks, to compete in this year's Shooting Industry Masters. Sponsored and produced by FMG Publications, the three-gun competition raises awareness of NSSF's Step Outside program, along with money to expand the program's ability to introduce newcomers to shooting.

Many companies that have already signed up for this year's event are featured in "challenge ads" in this issue, beginning on page 22.

"Here's a challenge to the industry: This is something companies should support. We need to be visible and show the shooters of America that shooters populate gun companies. That benefits all the companies in the industry," said Steve Sanetti, Sturm, Ruger president, who is captain of Team Ruger, the match's Industry Class champions.

The Step Outside program plays a significant role in building the future of the industry, according to Doug Painter, NSSF president.

"When it comes to the future of hunting and the shooting sports, no two words are more important than Step Outside! Step Outside is about stepping up to the plate, making sure that each of us is taking our turn at bat to introduce a newcomer to our sporting traditions. FMG Publications has hit a home run with the Shooting Industry Masters. I hope you'll do your part by fielding a team at this year's event and look forward to seeing you there," Painter said.

This year's competition will be held at the Raahauges Shooting Complex in Corona, Calif.

"We're pleased to bring the competition to Southern California, as a way of introducing industry shooters to different venues and shooting styles," said Randy Molde, the event's chairman. "This year, we will feature cowboy-action style shooting for the rifle and handgun stages. We challenge all companies to field a team and Step Outside to support the industry."

This year's match sponsors are Aimpoint, Benchmade, Black Hills Ammunition, Brownells, Gunsite, Howard Leight, Ruger, Smith & Wesson and Winchester Ammunition.

To raise money for Step Outside, a raffle is held during the event's awards banquet. To donate products for the raffle, enter a team in the event or for additional information, call 1-800-537-3006, ext. 279. Hotel, airport and additional information is available on Shooting Industry's Web site, www.shootingindustry.com.

"The Shooting Industry Masters is something I believe very strongly in, both in supporting FMG and as a member of the board at NSSF," Sanetti said. "We'll be there this year and I invite you to join us. You don't have to win, you just have to come out and enjoy shooting at this great event."
