Federal gives $44,000 to Ducks Unlimited

Shooting Industry, June, 2007 by Tim Brandt

As part of its ongoing conservation and preservation efforts, Federal Premium presented Ducks Unlimited (DU) with a check from the Ultra-Shok Grasslands for Tomorrow royalty program. Presented at the SHOT Show, the $44,000 check will be used by DU for waterfowl conservation and preservation.

In 2006, Federal Premium partnered with DU and its members to raise funds for the restoration of waterfowl habitat during the inception of the Grasslands for Tomorrow program. The DU effort focuses on the Missouri Coteau area of the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) of Saskatchewan and North and South Dakota.

The area was targeted because its uniquely high grassland and wetland density can support breeding ducks not only for the central and Mississippi Flyway, but the entire United States.

"We are very happy with the response we received from Grasslands for Tomorrow," said Kyle Tengwall, Federal Premium marketing director. "The first year of our support definitely showed that hunters care about their sport. We need conservation efforts from organizations like DU to help preserve the pastime of waterfowl hunting, and we look forward to continuing to work with Ducks Unlimited to ensure there are ducks for the hunters of tomorrow."

Federal Premium will continue to support DU and Grasslands for Tomorrow by donating a part of the proceeds from each box of Ultra-Shok sold in 2007-08. Federal officials say they hope to help DU realize the ultimate goal of securing two million acres of critical habitat in the U.S. portion of the Coteau.
