Handgun control uses Ashcroft for fund raising - Industry Watch

Shooting Industry, July, 2002 by Russ Thurman

"Help Stop Attorney General Ashcroft From Eviscerating Sensible Gun Laws! Donate Now!" screams the pop-up window on Handgun Control Inc.'s (HCI-Brady) Website. (Yes, we had to look up "eviscerating." It means to "disembowel," as in field dressing a whitetail.)

Attorney General John Ashcroft is HCI's number one target, and that's why they urge their supporters to "click here" to donate. Driving this latest anti-Ashcroft campaign is the Justice Department's position that the Second Amendment "broadly protects the rights of individuals."

"That's why our work is more urgent than ever!" an HCJ email cries. "Please give a generous contribution today to ensure that we can continue to fight against those who would weaken our country's gun laws!"

Here's what we can do to counter HCI's efforts. Send an email to Attorney General Ashcroft thanking him for standing firm on the individual rights of Americans. Send emails to: AskDOJ@usdoj.gov.
