Sell gun cases for protection and pride - Outdoor Marketplace

Shooting Industry, August, 2002 by Sam Fadala

Gun cases are especially easy to sell for three reasons. First, most shooters admire their personal firearms. A basic .30-30 may not wind the watch of every devoted arms owner; however, its owner probably enjoys a special romance with his lever action. For him, the little lever-action deserves as much protection as another person's custom firearm.

Second, it's not difficult to convince a shooter that on the range or in the field a firearm which takes a whack on either its iron sights or scope is a liability. You might consider producing a reminder card, a computer-generated note that goes in the bag with every purchase. It might say, "Don't forget that gun case for your handgun, rifle or shotgun. Your firearms deserve protection. And you deserve to reach the range or field with your guns fully functioning, including their sights."

Third, some cases generate pride of ownership. Browning, for example, offers several handsome cases, such as its Leather/Canvas model, Two-Tone Dura-Wax Pistol Rug or Case, and Hydro-Wick--all soft models. Browning's shotgun Fitted Luggage Cases are handsome and solidly built.

Modestly priced Hoppe's rifle cases have convenient pockets. The models I used this past season have two--one zippered, the other Velcro secured. The latter is perfectly sized to hold a box of ammo, while the zippered section secures shooting glasses and ear plugs, as well as incidentals such as a pull-through cleaning device, plus a gun lock for camp.

Michaels of Oregon offers its Sidekick line of gun cases and pistol rugs. Filson and sizeable offerings of handsome gun cases.

Kolpin Gun Boot IV Transport combines a hard and soft case. The cases outer shell remains attached to an ATV, with a soft case providing extra protection in and Out of the transport.

DoskoSport, the new name for the sporting Goods Division of Doskocil, has a new Special Edition Four Pistol/Accessory case, also with new merchandising displays.

Bagmaster, Boyt, Green Mountain Sports, Plano, and W. Waller & Sons offer dealers impressive inventories to meet every customers' need. The super metal boxes from Bear Track defy even the airlines to damage their precious cargo. Bear Track Cases is a division of Freedom Arms.

Gun cases protect not only the firearms, but they also keep guns out of the reach of children, especially those cases that lock. Selling a gun case is good business and a service to your customers.
