In praise of Kimber, EAA

Shooting Industry, August, 2004

I thought you'd like to hear about two gun companies that provided better customer service than they had to.

My Kimber Compact Stainless .45 ACP was not ejecting properly. I'm not in danger of winning any IDPA matches with it, or with any other gun for that matter, but it was still annoying. After some e-mails between Kimber and me, I sent the pistol to them to check, along with a letter that made it clear that it was not under warranty. I purchased it used.

I had the pistol back in about two weeks after they tuned the extractor, and they didn't charge me a thing. Although I haven't shot it in a match again, it seems that they've fixed the problem.

My wife's Bounty Hunter II shotgun developed a similarly annoying problem this year. It would shoot each barrel in succession only if you pulled the rear trigger first. If you pulled the front trigger first, the second barrel would fail to fire. I sent it to European American Armory with a letter that made it clear that it was out of warranty. I bought it new three years ago.

They returned it to me in about three weeks after they replaced the hammers and sears and tuned the triggers, and they also did not charge me a cent. This gun also has not been shot again in a match, but test firing indicates the malfunction has been remedied.

I'm glad to announce the great service Kimber and European American Armory gave me.
