New pathologists' assistant certification

Medical Laboratory Observer, Dec, 2004

New pathologists' assistant certification. In a collaborative effort, the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry (BOR) and the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA) have established the first professional certification for pathologists' assistants. Currently, only AAPA Fellows can gain certification by submitting a transfer application form to the ASCP BOR by Dec.

31, 2005. After that date, applicants must pass a BOR exam in order to become certified. BOR exam candidates must have graduated from a pathologists' assistant program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) or must otherwise demonstrate appropriate training and experience in the field. Visit www.ascp.org/bor or www.pathologistsassistants.org for more information.
