MT and MLT exams approved

Medical Laboratory Observer, March, 2007

MT and MLT exams approved. The American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Board of Registry (BOR) exams for MT (Clinical Laboratory Scientist, CLS) and MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician) have been approved for licensure in California making it the only licensure-approved MLT exam in the state. The AAB BOR will offer two options: 1) a California-only exam that excludes microscopy and immunohematology questions, or 2) a full exam including immunohematology.

Either exam will be accepted for MLT licensure in the state of California. Eleven states currently recognize AAB BOR exams, including California, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Hawaii, Montana, Louisiana, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and West Virginia. New York is currently developing its licensure program.
