Pipeline construction authorization from BERR

Pipeline & Gas Journal, Sept, 2008

Portland Gas Storage Limited has received authorization from the British Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) to build a 37-km natural gas pipeline to connect the underground salt cavern gas storage site at Portland, Dorset, to the National Transmission System. Permission was also granted for a 16-km brine pipeline between Stafford Farm, east of Dorchester and Portland.

Andrew Hindle, the CEO of Portland Gas, said the project will be the largest gas storage facility onshore UK and will make a significant contribution to the security of energy supplies for the country. Initial operation is expected in 2011 with full project completion by 2015.
