Council revises chapter charter requirement, award programs

Healthcare Financial Management, Jan, 2004

HFMA's Regional Executive Council recently approved a number of revisions to the Association's chapter charter requirements and award programs for the 2004-05 chapter year.

Chapters must now conduct a financial review prior to submitting financial information to HFMA National for IRS Form 990 under the Davis Chapter Management System (DCMS), effective May 1, 2004. The purpose of the new requirement is to be proactive in maintaining the fiscal integrity of HFMA's chapters.

The council approved establishing Awards of Excellence for New Member Retention. The awards, set at the bronze, silver, and gold levels, will complement the existing membership growth award and establish an incentive to increase chapter involvement in retention of individuals who have been HFMA members for less than four years. The awards will be based on the chapter's actual rate of new member retention at the end of the DCMS award year.

Chapters will now be allowed to submit a total of four single chapter Yerger Award entries. The Yerger Awards recognize outstanding chapter performance in the categories of collaboration, education, improvement, innovation, member communications, member service, and membership recruitment and retention. The current limit of eight entries will continue to be in effect for entries submitted by April 1, 2004, for the 2003-04 chapter year.

HFMA's Regional Council comprises 11 regional executives, Chairman Gregory M. Adams, FHFMA, and Co-Chairman Robert L. Broadway. FHFMA.
