HSAs see rapid growth since September

Healthcare Financial Management, June, 2005

The number of people covered by health savings accounts or high-deductible health plans more than doubled between September 2004 and March 2005, to 1.03 million, according to the latest survey of America's Health Insurance Plans member groups that offer the products.

Nearly 400,000 people were covered in the group market under these plans in March. This number includes 147,000 in firms with 50 or fewer employees and 162,000 in firms with 51 or more employees. AHIP member companies reported covering an additional 88,000 people in the group market in March, but did not report the breakdown between small and large groups.
