Healthcare Financial Management, July, 2002

The HFMA's Principles and Practices (P&P) Board announced the following appointments for 2002:

* Kelly A. Barnes, CPA, partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, Dallas, Texas (reelected P&P Board chairman);

* Lawrence A. Laddaga, FHFMA, attorney, Laddaga-Garrett, PA, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina;

* Anthony R. Miranda, CFO, TPI Health Systems, Louisville, Kentucky; and

* James S. Stewart, health systems director, budget and reimbursement, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.

As members of the P&P Board, these individuals will help serve HFMA members by actively monitoring accounting and financial reporting issues, working with standards-setting organizations to ensure that standards accommodate the healthcare field's distinctive characteristics, and providing guidance to healthcare organizations when existing standards are unclear.

The board consists of 12 members appointed for three-year terms. To adequately reflect HFMA membership, the P&P Board is composed of representatives from throughout the healthcare sector. At least six members of the P&P Board must be employees of healthcare organizations and half must have FHFMA or CPA designations. HFMA's Chairman of the Board appoints all P&P members. Qualifications for service on the P&P Board include demonstration of excellence in several areas, including technical competence, service to the industry, professional reputation, and commitment to HFMA values.

Completing their terms on the P&P Board this year are Jeffrey G. Blumengold, FHFMA, CPA, partner in charge, healthcare services, MR Weiser & Company, LLP, Edison, New Jersey; Jeffrey E. Michelman, PhD, CPA, CMA, associate dean, University of North Florida, Jacksonville, Florida; and Connie R. Williams, FHFMA, CPA, corporate compliance and privacy officer, Bostford Healthcare Continuum, Farmington Hills, Michigan, and member of the HFMA Board.
