Margaret Sabin has been appointed to represent HFMA on the National Trauma-EMS Systems Stakeholders Committee, which has been organized by the Trauma-EMS Systems Program of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services.

In 2002, Congress appropriated $3.5 million to support trauma systems and EMS development. The stakeholders committee will provide guidance to the trauma-EMS systems program on establishing a strategic plan and specific objectives. The committee also will provide assistance to states during assessment of their trauma systems.

Sabin, who is CEO, Marin General Hospital, Greenbrae, California, and Novato Community Hospital, Novato, California, has extensive experience in emergency services management. Prior to this position, she was CEO of the Steamboat Springs Health Care Association (SSHCA), Steamboat Springs, Colorado. During her tenure with SSHCA, Sabin oversaw the construction of a $50 million healthcare campus and helped SSHCA achieve Level Ill trauma center designation for the organization's emergency department.

Sabin also has held positions as vice president, COO, and CEO for Swedish Medical Center, Englewood, Colorado. In addition, she served as administrator of the Medical Centers of Colorado, Denver, Colorado. Prior to this position, she served as a senior manager, Denver Health and Hospitals, Denver, Colorado; senior health care consultant, Price Waterhouse, Denver, Colorado; and senior management engineer, South Hills Health System, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
