Many Medicare Claim Denials Are Reversed - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Of the 392,660 healthcare claims denied by Medicare in 2000 in Florida, more than half were reversed after review, according to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. Nationally, 64 percent of denied Medicare claims related to physician, nursing, and home healthcare services were overturned in 2000, resulting in payments of $524.5 million to beneficiaries.

About 30 percent of denied claims involving Medicare inpatient treatment were reversed after review, resulting in payments of $27.4 million for services.
