No article on memory-enhancing dietary components would be complete without mentioning phosphatidylserine (PS) and phosphatidylcholine (PC), integral components of neuron cell membranes and popular dietary supplement components.

One function of phosphatidylcholine in the body is in the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. Researchers have found that acetylcholine deficiency could cause memory deficits in AD, Studies suggests that phosphatidylserine slightly enhances cognition in those without AD. Issues such as which populations may potentially benefit from supplementation with these compounds and appropriate doses are yet to be determined.
