IFF earns patent

Prepared Foods, August, 2003

A fermentation process to produce natural styralyl alcohol and its esters earned International flavors & Fragrances Inc. a U.S. patent. Styralyl acetate has a powerful, intense "green" character and is useful for a range of fruit flavors such as apple, raspberry end strawberry. When used at very low level, it adds a fresh, natural lift to a range of flavors, including citrus and punch flavors. 1he addition of this new, natural chemical to the IFF arsenal of natural proprietary flavor chemicals gives the company an edge in creating new and superior natural flavors.

In addition to flavor use, styralyl acetate also can find use in fragrance applications where it can supplement, augment and modify compositions used to create fruity and floral aromas. Markus Eckert, 732-335-2195, markus.eckert.com
