Contoured, two-piece can - Coca-Cola Co - Brief Article

Prepared Foods, April, 1997

The Coca Cola Co. is introducing a 12-oz. contoured, aluminum two-piece can. Its contour shape utilizes the latest innovations in can-shaping technology. Cans are made on a conventional line, then proceed to a mechanical process with multi-segmented expanding and contracting tools. Package sizes include six-, eight-and 18-packs, all wrapped in paperboard multipacks.

Six- and eight-packs use Mead 20-pt. CNK[R] paperboard while the 18-pack uses 24 pt. board. Packages are flexo-printed in four color lines and hot-melt glued. Corner cutouts promote the can shape. The six-pack provides convenient finger holes, the eight-pack utilizes a single-ply strap handle and the 18-pack offers an easy grip slot handle for carrying.
