People have to eat. That's what keeps the food industry going strong even in tough times. A new marketing incentive plan takes advantage of this, as well as consumers'

Clorox and Frito-Lay are two of the companies participating in the new Air Miles program, which allows consumers to collect miles toward free airline travel by making everyday purchases. Consumers reeeive extensive promotional materials with Muctaons for clipping the UPC symbol on products such as K.C. Masterpiece barbecue sauce and Smartfood popcorn. The proofs-of-purchase are then tracked electronically.

Tom Markerts, spokesperson for the program expects 80 million households to participate in the first year. He believes consumers are looking for ways to make their shopping dollar go further.
