Plastic Packaging Reaches 81%

Dairy Foods, Jan, 2002

A survey by USDA shows the days of the glass milk bottle are all but over. The milk container survey, conducted on a regular basis since 1963, shows glass containers accounted for only 0.2% of total fluid milk sales in November 1999, the month selected for the survey. Meanwhile, the proportion of total milk products sold in plastic containers increased to 81%.

In 1963,32% of milk was sold in bottles and only 3% in plastic containers.
