A technology breakthrough by the nutrition scientists at Brandeis University has enabled Smart Balance Inc., Paramus, N.J., to develop milk products that deliver 166% of the daily value of vitamin E in each serving with up to three times better absorption into the bloodstream. The new Smart Balance Milk, which is currently available at Wal-Mart and Publix stores in Florida and Georgia, and will be expanding in more markets in 2008, has the added benefit of omega-3s EPA/ DHA and alpha-linolenic acid, as well as added calcium and protein.

"As with all of our products, we created this product with the busy, health-conscious consumer in mind," says Steve Hughes, president and CEO of Smart Balance. "People want to incorporate healthier foods into their diets, but aren't necessarily willing to sacrifice flavor. The rich, creamy taste would be reason enough to purchase this milk, but with the added benefit of these essential nutrients, using this product is a no-brainer."

Smart Balance Milk, with no hormones added, and no antibiotics, is available in four varieties: 1% low-fat, skim, 1% low-fat chocolate and lactose-free.
