Ben & Jerry's to streamline facilities

Dairy Foods, June, 2002

S. BURLINGTON, Vt.--Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream is planning to shutter its manufacturing facility in Springfield Vt., and a distribution center in Bellows Falls, Vt., and move those functions to an existing plant at St. Albans, Vt. Fifty five jobs will be added at St. Albans, but 124 jobs will be lost at the two sites which are being closed.

Employees will be given a year's notice and the opportunity to transfer to other sites within Ben & Jerry's. The company said the streamlining would make it more competitive and bring production closer to the company's milk sources.
