Food MegaTrends lineup promises a comprehensive look at the industry's future

Attendees at October's Food & Dairy Expo in Atlanta can look forward to an extra educational bonus that comes free of charge: the Food MegaTrends '93 Conference. Conveniently located right at the Georgia World Congress Center, all Food MegaTrends sessions are scheduled in the morning, before show hours, so participants can achieve maximum use of their time at the convention.

In addition to presentations from 28 of the industry's most respected authorities, Food MegaTrends will also feature the Presidents Panel, a special conference led by four internationally recognized presidents of major food producers and retailers. These high-profile speakers will focus on how today's suppliers to the food industry can meet the changing needs of food processors, as well as the evolving demands of food retailers.

* TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT

The implementation and benefits of TQM, and its effect on product development.

Speakers:

Carolyn Yoch, vice president total quality, Kraft USA will discuss "How a major food company implements TQM and the benefits being received."

James Lucas, vice president operations, APV Crepaco will address how a major supplier implements TQM and the benefits being received."

Shrish Mehta, manager of new product development, Grand Met/Pillsbury will discuss "How TQM affects new product development, as seen by a food scientist with a major food company."

* NEW DAIRY PRODUCTS

Speakers:

Tom Clegg, vice president of marketing, Sargento Cheese Co., will address "Innovative Thinking--and Action." Innovative new products are a significant contributor to Sargento's success; more than one-third of its volume comes from items that didn't exist five years ago.

James Page, executive vice president of frozen desserts, Land-O-Sun Dairies, shares his insight on "Different Frozen Desserts." The consumer of frozen desserts is different today. Here's how one ice cream company is reaching those consumers by meeting new demands for frozen desserts.

James Robson, general manager of sales and marketing, Darigold, will talk about "Cholesterol-Reduced Products." Robson describes Darigold's experiences with cholesterol-reduced products, including consumers' reactions.

* STRATEGIES FOR THE 1990s

New developments in R&D marketing and new products both domestically and internationally will be explored, as well as the topic of how pharmaceutical developments could affect the food industry.

Speakers:

Paul McSweeny, associate director, strategic R&D, Borden Inc., will address "New Directions for R&D," and how R&D is changing to meet the new demands of the 1990s.

Jeff Merrihue, marketing manager, Kellogg Co./Bogota, Colombia, will examine "New Directions for Marketing." A new marketing approach for new products is needed in the United States, as well as in other countries throughout the world.

Ken Olsen, president, International Processing Corp., talks about "Pharmaceutical Developments ... Effects on Food." Ongoing developments in the pharmaceutical industry could be the forerunner of things to come for food manufacturers.
