Gale Group Acquires Rights to Major U.K. Publications

Gale Group, an operating unit of Thomson Corp., has announced that it has acquired online rights to the U.K.'s major newspapers and business and financial publications. In agreements struck with The Independent, a major British newspaper; Centaur Communications, publisher of the U.K.'s best-known industry journals; and Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, publisher of magazines for the U.K.'s investment community, Gale Group will provide online access to more than 50 newspapers and magazines, significantly expanding the international content available in its renowned newspaper and magazine databases.

Gale will provide access to The Independent and The Independent on Sunday. Among the magazines available online through Gale are Creative Review, Marketing Week, New Media Age, Sports Marketing, Bank Letter, Commercial Lending Review, and Wall Street Letter.

According to Gale, the company is noted for its commanding distribution network in libraries throughout the world. Library patrons and other information consumers search and review newspapers and magazines through Gale's InfoTrac interface, which is best known for its technological innovation, friendly interface, and precise searching. Web users can find Gale databases on major portals, including LookSmart, Dow Jones, WebMD, Borders, and Thomson Financial. According to the announcement, Gale is a sought-after content provider because of its accurate and authoritative proprietary reference content as well as its intelligent organization of full-text magazine and newspaper articles.

The Independent, Centaur Communications, and Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC join more than 3,000 publishers in licensing rights for distribution through Gale Group.
