Remo Drugs hosts pharmacy students

Drug Store News, June 28, 1999 by James Frederick

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Northeastern, regional wholesaler Remo Drugs recently gave future pharmacists an inside look at the drug distribution business with an information-packed tour of its warehouse facility.

Remo, which distributes more than 24,000 SKUs to a market base of more than 1,500 drug stores and pharmacies in New York and surrounding states, hosted students and faculty from Long Island University's Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

During the tour, Remo executives provided students with in sights into the wholesaler/pharmacist relationship, ordering procedures and quick order turnaround. Part of the tour group were pharmacy school dean Stephen Gross and Patrick Campbell, director of student and professional activities.

"As educators, it is our responsibility to help students explore the many different career opportunities that are available," Gross noted. "By allowing us to gain an insider's look at a wholesaler, Remo has provided our students with a valuable glimpse at one vital aspect of pharmacy operation."

Remo, which began operations in the late 1950s, is expanding rapidly and last year was ranked the nation's 14th largest drug wholesaler in Bales by the National WholeBale Druggists Association, with 1997 sales up 24.4 percent to $336 million. The company's rapid expansion is behind plans for a new, larger distribution center this year, according to the firm.
