Wegmans shifts pricing to EDLP strategy

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets has replaced its "high-low" pricing strategy with an everyday low price program. The chain has been using its Web site to promote the change and explain the benefits to consumers. Last month, it mailed out videotapes featuring president Danny Wegman explaining the program. The videotapes went to all households that participate in Wegmans' Shoppers Club frequent shopper program.

On the site, the chain :notes while shoppers may occasionally "no Lice an advertised price that s lower, overall the price on the shelf at Wegmans will give you the best value."
