Kao Corp., whose brands include Jergens, Biore, Curel and John Frieda, has agreed to buy from Bridgepoint Capital the luxury cosmetics and personal care company Molton Brown for 170 million pounds (U.S. $299 million). U.K.-based Molton Brown is expected to continue to operate as a standalone business within Kao's prestige cosmetics division.

In the United States, Molton Brown's products are sold in such department stores as Barneys, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's, along with several company-operated shops or emporiums.
