Duane Reade partners with NYC high school

Drug Store News, Sept 9, 2002

NEW YORK -- Duane Reade has established an onsite cooperative learning program at Harry Van Arsdale Jr. High School, a New York City public high school located in Brooklyn. The program will revolve around a 2,000-square-foot simulated Duane Reade drug store that will be open at the school for the 2002-2003 school year. The class, which will be taught by a New York City public school teacher, will introduce approximately 60 students each semester to the inner workings of a retail drug store. The program course has an integrated standards-based curriculum designed to provide students with math, science, computer and business skills, and also to prepare them for potential careers in retail management and pharmacy. Upon completing the course, each participant will receive high school credit along with a certificate guaranteeing the student future employment with Duane Reade.

Anthony Cuti, president and chief executive officer of Duane Reade, said the partnership "underscores our commitment to assist the community in which we operate."
