Pharmacy Institute honored for training program initiatives

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -- The Institute for the Advancement of Community Pharmacy has garnered accolades from five organizations for promoting medication safety and compliance through two training videos for pharmacists.

The two videos, "Prescription for Quality and Patient Safety" and "The Power of Words," were released early this year with the support of an educational grant from Pfizer an additional support from Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Cardinal Health, GlaxoSmithKline, Pharmacia and ScriptPro. Among the honors the institute captured for its video presentations were the Health Science Communications Association's Gold Award, the Silver Screen Award (medicine and health category) at the U.S. International Film and Video Festival and a first place finish in the training/education category from the Aegis Awards.

"Building a culture of safety within community pharmacy has been a main goal of the institute for the past two years," said the institute s executive director, Laura Cranston. "We are pleased with the tremendous support we have received from our industry partners who share our belief in the importance of the safe and appropriate use of medications."
