Brooks in the Beauty Zone

Drug Store News, Sept 13, 2000

WARWICK, R.I. -- With its sights set on grabbing a larger share of the growing teen market, Brooks Pharmacy has created a new "Beauty Zone 2000" section in its stores. As part of the effort, the chain rolled out a back-to-school beauty promotion geared to teen girls and young women. With help from partners Procter & Gamble and Seventeen magazine, Brooks offered shoppers who spent $15 or more on selected products free gifts: a Seventeen hair accessory and a beauty tool kit containing a makeup brush, coupon book and sample packets of Pert Plus, Oil of Olay and CG Smoothers.

Consumers received both gifts right at the Brooks' stores when they make their purchases. The promotion ran from Aug. 27 through Sept. 2.

Among the P&G brands in the Beauty Zone 2000 assortment were Cover Girl products, Pantene hair care items, Noxema, Clearasil, Olay skin products, Pert, Scope mouthwash, Secret deodorant, Physique, Crest toothpaste and others.

Shoppers also could receive a free 3-month subscription to Seventeen by filling out and mailing in gift order forms, available at the point-of-sale and attaching a receipt for their $15 purchase.

The Beauty Zone 2000 set will appear in all 250-plus Brooks stores. The promotion was advertised on radio and in-store displays and store circulars.
