Bristol Myers Squibb's Serzone (nefazodone hydrochloride) was opened to generic competition last month, with generic companies Mylan Laboratories, Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and Watson Pharmaceuticals all receiving approval from the Food and Drug Administration to market generic versions of the depression treatment last month.

Serzone had sales of $220.7 million for the 12 months ended in June, according to IMS Health.

The generic companies will distribute nefazodone hydrochloride in the following strengths: 100 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg and 250 mg. Ranbaxy and Teva will field a 50 mg tablet, as well.
