Pleasant Co

Drug Store News, Oct 21, 2002

Some drug chains, aware of the popularity of The Pleasant Co.'s American Girl dolls--which retail for $80 and more depending on accessories and which are only sold through catalogs, the American Girls Web site and the American Girls store--are kicking off their holiday season by merchandising value priced simulations of the dolls on endcaps positioned near the checkouts and the seasonal aisles.

CVS, for example, is featuring an assortment of fashion history porcelain dolls under the brand name "Century Collection." The dolls, made in China and packaged with a display stand, retail for $9.99, certificate included.

In addition, CVS.com has featured an offer this month on a special Halloween safety kit. The kit--an $80 value, available for just $49.99--features a collection of safety-ins ire items, including two Garrity Glo Lite flashlights, two GPX two-way, 14-channel family radios, two four-packs of CVS brand AAA batteries, one 27-exposure CVS brand dsposable flash camera and a 29-piece first aid kit.
