Stop & Shop tests shopping cart

QUINCY, Mass. -- Supermarket chain Stop & hop plans to roll out in first quarter 2005 a new intelligent shopping cart from IBM and Cuesol, dubbed the Shopping Buddy.

The carts, which will be featured in three pilot stores and installed in an additional 20 units, include a wireless, touchscreen IBM computer equipped with a laser scanner to allow shoppers to scan items as they place them in the cart and to use loyalty cards.
